Corrosion fatigue can reduce the fatigue strength dramatically, up to 40 % less strength in a corrosive environment compared to dry air conditions. Sacrificing electredoes of zinc as cathodic protection is efficient in salt water environments. Metallic coating is also used efficiently for corrosion protection. However, the coating can have reduced fatigue strength compared to base metal.
Painted products in normal environment are considered not to be affected by corrosion fatigue.
